November Ends!

As the month of November draws to a close, things remain very busy in the Early Years Classroom.
In December, on Monday we welcome two teacher candidates from the University of Windsor into our classroom to practice teach with us for three weeks. So you may hear a few more names mentioned during your discussions about school. Welcome, Miss. Robinet and Mr. Drayton.

We enjoy making music.
We love making crafts and creating with play dough.
We never get tired of building with Lego, blocks or mobilo.
We are now scanning items at the store.

More Exciting News

We forgot to post some pictures of probably the most exciting thing that happened in JK/SK this week.
Our house centre became a store, and we've been busy making price tags and signs.

Wow, Now That's Cold!

So winter hasn't officially arrived but boy did we have winter weather this week. Thank you for dressing your child so warmly, they love being outside in the snow. They are all learning to dress themselves and doing a great job of it. Sending in an extra pair of mittens and socks is a great idea. We try our best to dry the mittens and hats on the vents in the room, but sometimes those mittens are just too wet.

The General Amherst Concert band visited the school on Thursday morning and we were so inspired by the music that some boys decided to make a little band and they had fun showing off their dance moves.

We continue to explore 2D and 3D Shapes.
"I used 9 circles on my snowman."

We read the book, The Gruffalo, by Julia Donaldson and we watched the movie based on the book and then we compared the two using a Venn diagram. Some of our friends also made some great artwork based on the book and movie.

We still love building with Lego and blocks.

Here are some healthy plates we made at school.

As we continue to discuss healthy eating this month we made bread and butter. Our first batch of bread didn't turn out so we just tried again the next day and it was delicious. We are really turning into quite the chefs around here.

Remember in November

On November 11th our classes attended a thoughtful and somber Rememberance Day Ceremony put on by the Grade 8s. It was very well done and we were very proud of our little students and how well behaved and respectful they were during the ceremony.

Healthy eating is still on the menu, we are talking about the four different food groups and what groups the food we eat on a daily basis belong in.

All of our friends in JK/SK can recognize their first names and most of them can print them independently. So we have to challenge them. Every morning they now have to find their last names on the carpet to put in the pocket chart. It was a bit of a challenge at first, but at the end of only the first week, almost all of our friends now recognize their last names!

We are learning about our five senses and having an especially fun time with our sense of taste. Some brave students are tasting lemons, onions and pickles. You can hear a friend's heartbeat with a stethoscope!

We are always making patterns and building with blocks. It is great to see how interested in writing the students have become.

November is Here

Just a reminder that on Tuesday, November 11 at 10:15 am our classes will be attending the Rememberance Day Assembly in the gym.

You may have had discussions with your child about healthy eating and the four food groups this week. We will be talking about eating right for your health all month. We made a healthy snack the other day using whole wheat bread and cheese! Yum, yum!

We continued learning about shapes and as always we are practicing number recognition.

We did some finger painting this week. Lots of fun!

Our students are busy working on a year long project, we hope will be a fun surprise for Moms and Dads at the end of the year.

We had some fun with shaving cream this week. We practiced writing words and making shapes and pictures.
