Penguins, Penguins, Penguins!!!!

We've gone a little penguin crazy this week. We've started an inquiry about penguins, starting with what we know about them, discussing what we want to learn and sharing what we learned?

We have made many different kinds of penguins from plasticine with a habitat and construction paper.

And of course we are doing many other things, learning and having fun. We are really into making books and pictures right now!

It's Still January!

Well this week has been much better, since we've been able to get outside. Our friends get pretty wet outside some days. It would be a great idea to send in an extra pair of socks and mittens, so your little one can change throughout the day. Another reminder, if your child is ordering soup, please send a spoon in their lunch packs.
This week we started talking about penguins. You saw the poem about our friend "Peter", he only eats foods that start with "P", so we celebrated by making pizza with pepperoni and peppers! Yum, it was delicious.
We are playing lots of games in math this week, like Snakes and Ladders, dominoes, Go Fish,  Tic- Tac-Toe, etc. So if you get a chance play a game at home with your child. They learn so much, like recognizing the dots on a dice as a number, counting spaces on a game board and taking turns just to mention a few things.

Moving right along!

As we continue to move along in the month of January, we are grateful for warmer (relatively) days when we can get outside and play in the lovely snow! It's so much fun! Thanks to our great parents who make soup or hot chocolate for us everyday, it's delicious! We are talking about winter and the changes that occur in this season. In the winter spirit we are making popcorn snowmen. Painting beautiful snowman. Investigating snow and ice, and inquiring about penguins and polar bears in our rice table. Enjoy your long weekend!

Happy New Year

Welcome back everyone. We are excited to be here and get back into our routines. The children have made a wonderful transition this week. We can't believe how much they have grown both physically and in maturity and independence.
We are introducing some of our favourite authors to the class, starting with Jan Brett, reading many of her wonderful books. We are also focusing on writing. Discussing, how many words are in a sentence, how finger spaces in between words are so important and what letter a word starts with, (beginning sounds), for example.
As always we are having lots of fun and learning so many things during our free play time.
