Feelings that I Feel!

We are continuing to discuss feelings; What are synonyms for feeling words?  E.g., joyful, glad for happy, scared for afraid, lonely, disappointed for sad and so on. Can you recognize how someone feels by looking at their face? What can you do when you are feeling mad? Ask them what mouse does when she's mad or what Tucker the Turtle does? We received some beautiful junk for our make and take centre and the students sorted it all with the help of Miss P. Now they must complete a plan in drawing before they can create. We are getting some pretty wonderful creations.

Bright Inside

It may be gray and gloomy outside but it's bright and happy in the Early Years classroom this week. We started our 5 week Emotional Literacy unit aimed at teaching children emotional vocabulary and identifying nonverbal cues associated with each emotion. This week our book introduces the feeling, "happy", it's called, "Taking a Bath With the Dog and Other Things that Make Me Happy." We also continue to focus on our Question of the Day and how to graph the answers. We have started to challenge the students to answer a math question each day, from the results of the question. Our friends are loving the blocks of ice, penguins, whales and animals at the water table. There is always lots going on in here!

Happy New Year

Welcome back and Happy New Year! We hope everyone had a wonderful holiday. Our poem this week is called Happy New Year. With this poem we are talking about calendars and the fact that the date changes every day, the month every 30 days or so and the year, just once! If you have a calendar at your house you might want to take the opportunity to look at it and talk about it. We are also clapping the syllables of each word. You could play a game with your child and clap out the number of syllables. A great place to start are names. Just a reminder to send in your child's beautiful bag of junk next week, so we can make some beautiful creations.
